Sponsored cat adoption weekend finds loving homes and supports pets in need

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Sept. 14, 2020 – Animal Friends Alliance found homes for 67 felines during its
fee-waived cat adoption special. The event was sponsored by Fort Collins businessman, Dennis Schick
of RE/MAX Alliance, as part of the organization’s Home Together fundraiser.

During the August 27–30 adoption event, dozens of families took home a new feline family member.
Due to restrictions put in place following COVID-19, Animal Friends Alliance is conducting adoptions by
appointment only, but this did not deter the adopters of the 67 cats and kittens who found loving
homes during the event. This sponsored adoption weekend was part of a month-long crowdfunding
campaign, Home Together, designed to offset challenges created by the pandemic and to support
Animal Friends Alliance’s programs.

“Like so many others, Animal Friends Alliance has been impacted by COVD-19, particularly during the
shutdown earlier this spring,” said Sarah Swanty, executive director of Animal Friends Alliance.
“Thankfully, we’ve been able to continue providing our lifesaving services due to the incredible support
of our community. We’re so grateful to Dennis Schick for his generous sponsorship of this adoption
event, to all of the families who opened their homes to a new family member, and to everyone who
supported our Home Together campaign. You are helping our organization to save even more lives.”

In addition to finding homes for 67 cats and kittens during the sponsored adoption weekend, the
month-long Home Together campaign raised $158,589 for Animal Friends Alliance’s programs, including
its cat and dog shelters, Community Cat Program, subsidized spay/neuter clinic, and Kibble Supply Pet
Food Pantry. So far in 2020, Animal Friends Alliance has found homes for over 1,600 cats and nearly 700
dogs, performed over 4,000 spay/neuter surgeries, and distributed over 35,000 pounds of pet food to
families in need.
